What does Family Day Care WA do?

Family Day Care has operated in Western Australia for over thirty years. As Family Day Care Schemes increased, Co-ordination Unit staff identified the need to have an organisation that could provide professional support and promote Family Day Care within WA. This organisation, formerly known as Family Day Care Schemes of W.A., now operates under the name of Family Day Care WA. The current members are listed on the locator map. 
Family Day Care WA:

  • Is the peak body representing Family Day Care in Western Australia
  • Liaises with Federal and State Governments on issues relating to Child Care
  • Supports members
  • Works in partnership with other agencies
  • promotes Family Day Care as a quality child care service

 

What does the term “Scheme” refer to?

A “Scheme” is a network of Carers, supported by a professional Co-ordination unit and sponsored by either local government or non-government agencies. All parties work in partnership with families

 

What is the Co-ordination Unit’s role?

The Co-0rdination unit is staffed by qualified and experienced Child Care professionals. Its role is to:

  • work in partnership with Carers and Parents to ensure quality care is provided. This includes monitoring children’s progress
  • ensure child care standards and practises are maintained and continuously improved
  • assist and support Parents to find the care environment most suitable for their child
  • recruit, select and train new Carers
  • provide ongoing professional development for existing Carers and Staff
  • regularly monitor and support Carers to provide quality care
  • provide resources such as play sessions, toy library and information
  • provide professional network opportunities for Carers and Staff
  • develop networks within the local community
  • promote Family Day Care as a quality Child Care service
  • administer payments of Child Care Benefit
